Often the notion of evaluation (assessment) is confused with the notion of measurement (measurement). Measurement is the work of comparing a student's learning outcomes with a predetermined size, which is called an evaluation standard. To make the difference between measurement and assessment clearer, the following example is given: a tailor takes measurements of a person, he measures arm length, body length, chest circumference, waist circumference and so on. The tailor means taking measurements. If later the tailor states that the person who ordered the clothes is fat, slim, has an ideal body size, then the tailor makes an assessment of the person who ordered the clothes.
The final series of an educational process is to carry out educational evaluations. This activity is carried out to determine the level of success of the educational process based on the graduation standards of religious education subjects. "Education evaluation is an activity to determine the level of progress of a job in the process of Islamic education". In another sense, the evaluation of Islamic education is "an activity to determine the level of progress of a job in Islamic education".
The purpose of the evaluation in principle is to determine the level of ability and understanding of students from cognitive, psychomotor and affective aspects. However, in education, evaluation is more emphasized on affective and psychomotor aspects than on cognitive aspects. This is to determine the attitudes and behavior of students in four activities, namely:
- Attitudes and experiences towards his personal relationship with his Lord,
- Attitudes and experiences towards his relationship with the community,
- Attitudes and experiences towards the relationship of life with the natural surroundings, and
- Attitude and experience towards oneself as a servant of Allah, a member of the community, and the caliph of Allah SWT.
